Using human senses and emotions to reflect and visually illustrate the emotions and feelings triggered by particular songs. Here I’ve touched upon several inspirational pieces of music to me. The First is the French Art Song Apres un Reve which has been used in relationship to a hymn book. Second a book concentrating on Mozart’s Magic Flute, and the last being a small, patriotic short-song book from the 1960’s.
The materials used are to represent the different situations and emotions in each piece; ie the use of sewing to illustrating the hair of the woman acknowledged in Apres un Reve. Mono-printed dance like figures encouraged from the words of the different pieces. Also the differences between negative and positive prints to signify day and night. Further materials such as wax, wax dried paper (to feel like parchment), Roses, thick paint, sewn together pages, transfers of particular passages of music all work together to illustrate the pieces of music involved.
One music book is full of found images from the same year as the book was published. These images have been transferred by Cream Matt Wall Paint.
The books are originally found in a charity shop already in quite bad condition and are very fragile. They are displayed in a small early 1900’s suitcase of my great grandfathers to keep them together, Kind of a way of saying how we always carry our thoughts and memories with us.
